LASG ASKS COMMUNITIES TO CORPORATE THE ROAD CPNTRACTORS

The Lagos State Government has called on all communities in the 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas of the state to make the construction of the promised 114 new roads easy by cooperating with the contractors who will execute the projects.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Communities and Communications, Kehinde Bamigbetan, spoke on Friday at the Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, during a workshop for the Community Development Associations and other stakeholders in the state.

Bamigbetan advised the community leaders to monitor projects in their constituencies by asking questions where necessary, facilitating a cordial relationship between members of their community and contractors, as well as providing support to ensure speedy completion of the projects.

He said, “The construction of 114 roads will commence in the first quarter of 2016. It is government’s belief that the projects will enhance commercial activities in all the benefiting communities.”

The Chairman of the body of Executive Secretaries, Kolade Alabi, noted that the projects would reduce travel time from one area of the state to another.

Alabi told the CDA leaders that the projects were theirs, urging them to give room for maximum cooperation between the contractors and the people in their various communities.

“On our own part, we assure the CDAs of maximum cooperation and we are assuring you all that we will not compromise the standard of the projects,” he added.

Alabi, who commended the initiative of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on the constructions of two roads per LGA and LCDA in the state, said the move underscored the governor’s style of governance.

He added that the 114 road projects would prove Ambode’s policy of inclusive governance, which he promised during electioneering.

The Senior Special Assistant to Governor on Community Affairs, Alhaji Tajudeen Quadri, said upon the completion of the 114 roads, the living standard of the people would be enhanced, while the socio-economic life in the areas would be improved.

“Every resident should ensure that they also participate actively in the projects because they are the beneficiaries when completed. The CDAs’ monitoring of the projects is a tool for self-development, as active participation will enhance prioritising community projects,” he said.
